1920 Buffalo Nickel
/
1920 Buffalo Nickel in Fair Collectible Condition, See Photos. The 1920 Buffalo Nickel is a key date for collectors, representing a year with significant mintages across all three active mints: Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. The Philadelphia Mint (no mint mark) struck over 63 million pieces, making it relatively common in circulated grades. However, finding 1920-P Buffalo Nickels in higher uncirculated grades with good strike and luster can be challenging. The Denver (1920-D) and San Francisco (1920-S) issues, with mintages of 9,418,000 and 9,689,000 respectively, are considerably scarcer, especially in uncirculated condition. The 1920-S in particular is a semi-key date, with only a small number believed to exist in Gem condition. As with many Buffalo Nickels, the date and other fine details are prone to wear, so well-preserved examples with strong strikes are highly sought after and command premium prices.
