1927 Buffalo Nickel
/
1927 Buffalo Nickel in Fair Collectible Condition, See Photos. The 1927 Buffalo Nickel, also known as the Indian Head Nickel, is a classic American coin that holds significant appeal for collectors. Designed by James Earle Fraser, it features a proud profile of a Native American on the obverse and a rugged American bison on the reverse. Minted in Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco, the value of a 1927 Buffalo Nickel largely depends on its condition and the presence of a mint mark, which is typically found beneath the "FIVE CENTS" inscription on the reverse (the Philadelphia mint mark is usually absent). While common circulated examples can be quite affordable, coins in higher uncirculated grades, especially those from the San Francisco Mint due to their lower mintage, can command significantly higher prices. Furthermore, certain error varieties, such as the "3 1/2 Legged" bison error found on some Denver mint coins, can make a 1927 Buffalo Nickel exceptionally valuable to numismatists.
