Description

1929 Buffalo Nickel in Fair Collectible Condition, See Photos. The 1929 Buffalo Nickel, designed by James Earle Fraser, continues to captivate collectors with its evocative imagery of a Native American chief on the obverse and an American bison on the reverse. Struck at three mints – Philadelphia (no mint mark), Denver (D), and San Francisco (S) – the value of these coins varies depending on their originating mint and, crucially, their condition. While the Philadelphia issue saw a substantial mintage, making it relatively common in lower circulated grades, both the Denver and San Francisco issues had significantly lower mintages, rendering them scarcer and more desirable in better conditions. Despite being produced just before the full impact of the Great Depression, finding well-preserved 1929 Buffalo Nickels with sharp details and original luster can still be a challenge due to the inherent issues with die wear and striking quality that plagued the series. While not known for any major prominent errors like some other dates, the 1929 Buffalo Nickel remains a significant piece of American numismatic history and a popular target for collectors.
