1947 Silver Coin Canadian Ten Cents 80% Silver in Excellent Condition, See Photos. This 1947 Canadian Silver Ten Cent piece is a historically significant "emergency" issue from the reign of King George VI. While the coin is dated 1947, this specific variety featuring a tiny maple leaf after the date was actually struck in early 1948. The Royal Canadian Mint added the leaf to differentiate these coins from the regular 1947 mintage because they were forced to use outdated 1947 dies while waiting for new ones to arrive from London. The new 1948 dies were required to remove the Latin title "ET IND: IMP" (And Emperor of India) from the King's portrait following India's independence in August 1947.
