Description

1950 Wheat Penny Coins Collectibles - Very Fine condition, see photos. The 1950 Wheat Penny is a staple of mid-century American numismatics, marking a period of high production across all three U.S. Mint facilities. With a combined mintage exceeding 725 million coins, the 1950 issue is generally considered common in circulated grades, but it holds significant value for collectors in "Full Red" (RD) Mint State conditions. The Denver (1950-D) mint produced the most at approximately 334 million, followed by Philadelphia (no mint mark) at 272 million, and San Francisco (1950-S) at 118 million. While a typical brown, circulated penny is worth only a few cents, pristine examples graded MS-67 RD can fetch between $300 and $1,200, with a rare 1950-D MS-68 RD recently setting an auction record of over $20,000 in early 2025. Additionally, collectors hunt for "BIE" die break errors (a vertical crack between the B and E of "LIBERTY") and various repunched mint marks, which add a premium to this classic copper cent.
