History of the Item

This book is an adaptation of the popular Walt Disney television serial, "The Adventures of Spin and Marty," which first aired as a segment on The Mickey Mouse Club in 1955. The show was an instant hit with young audiences and was based on the 1942 novel Marty Markham by Lawrence Edward Watkin.

The story revolves around the unlikely friendship between two boys at a summer dude ranch called the Triple-R. Marty Markham is a wealthy, spoiled boy who is initially out of place, while Spin Evans is the popular, athletic, all-around ranch hand. Their journey from rivals to best friends captured the hearts of a generation of television viewers.

The success of the show led to two sequel serials and a wide range of merchandise, including comic books, records, and hardcover novels like this one. This particular book, "Trouble at Triple-R," was an original story based on the established characters. Whitman Publishing, having secured a licensing deal with Walt Disney in 1933, was the ideal publisher to bring these beloved characters to the printed page for their eager young fans.
