Description
1959 Jefferson Nickel Very Fine condition, see photos. The 1959 Jefferson Nickel is a staple of mid-century American coinage, representing a transitional period before the United States Mint moved away from high-relief strikes. Struck at both the Philadelphia and Denver mints, these coins featured the classic Felix Schlag design of Thomas Jefferson on the obverse and his Monticello estate on the reverse. While millions were produced—making them common in circulated pocket change—collectors specifically hunt for specimens with "Full Steps" (FS) on the reverse. Because the 1959 dies were often heavily used and worn, finding a strike with five or six sharply defined steps leading up to Monticello is exceptionally difficult, often commanding a significant premium in the numismatic market.
