This Capodimonte Hand-Painted Plate is a classic representation of Italian Baroque revival, featuring an intricate bas-relief scene known as "Matriarchal Art." The central image depicts a woman—often interpreted as the goddess Venus or a mother figure—surrounded by several cherubs (putti) in a pastoral garden setting, complete with a thatched-roof cottage in the background. True to the Capodimonte tradition, the figures are molded in high relief and brought to life with hand-applied polychrome enamels. The plate is framed by an exceptionally ornate scrolled acanthus border, which features delicate floral medallions and is highlighted with 18k gold trim that accentuates the textured "crazed" finish of the glaze.
