Layered ink wash is a captivating technique that involves applying successive washes of ink to create depth, dimension, and tonal variation in a work of art. Artists typically begin with diluted ink for lighter values, gradually building up to darker tones with more concentrated washes. This process allows for subtle gradations and a luminous quality as the layers interact with each other. The transparency of the ink allows underlying layers to peek through, creating a sense of depth and complexity. Layered ink wash can be used to create a wide range of effects, from soft and ethereal to bold and dramatic, making it a versatile technique for artists across various styles.
