Bill Gullickson Baseball Card 1994 Upper Deck No. 458 - Near Mint Condition, See Photos. A durable and resilient right-handed pitcher, Bill Gullickson carved out a notable 14-season career in Major League Baseball from 1979 to 1994, overcoming a diabetes diagnosis early in his professional journey. Beginning his career with the Montreal Expos, Gullickson quickly made a name for himself, finishing as the runner-up for the National League Rookie of the Year in 1980, a season highlighted by a then-record 18-strikeout game for a rookie. He was a consistent presence in the Expos' rotation for seven seasons before shorter stints with the Cincinnati Reds and New York Yankees. After a successful two-year tenure in Japan with the Yomiuri Giants, Gullickson returned to the MLB and authored an impressive comeback with the Detroit Tigers. In 1991, he led the American League with 20 wins, a testament to his perseverance and skill. Over his career, which also included a season with the Houston Astros, Gullickson compiled a 162-136 record with a 3.93 ERA and 1,279 strikeouts, leaving a legacy of toughness and determination.
