Desire Pastel Drawing Art Signed By Artist  - Intriguing home decor in Good Condition, See Photos - Measures 20" W x 26" H ... This evocative pastel drawing, titled Desire, captures a moment of quiet, soulful contemplation through rich textures and a sophisticated color palette. The composition features a seated woman in a vibrant lapis blue jacket and magenta skirt, her expression one of soft introspection. The artist, Mary Field Neville, masterfully uses the powdery medium of pastel to create a range of effects, from the smooth, blended skin tones of the subject's face to the energetic, gestural strokes that define her fur-trimmed wrap and the deep, shadowy background. A whimsical orange hat provides a playful splash of warmth, drawing the eye to the subject’s face and creating a beautiful contrast with the cool blues and earthy browns. Signed by the artist on the lower left, this piece is a wonderful example of figurative expressionism, where the emotion of the scene is conveyed as much through the tactile application of color as through the subject's pose.

M. Neville (1932-2024), a popular artist, native of W. Virginia, was educated at W. Virginia University and School of Design. She worked as a commercial artist in New York City graphic design, fashion and general illustration; she has held positions as advertising manager and art instructor giving workshops and teaching privately throughout the South. Based in Nashville middle Tennessee, her paintings of mostly watercolors, sketches and oil on canvas are included in private and public collections including the Tennessee State Museum and historic venues such as Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage. M. Neville held many prominent arts positions: Board member of the Madison Art Center, Tennessee Watercolor Society (Regional Director, Secretary, and Exhibition Chair), a member of the Nashville Artist Guild and a signature member of the Kentucky, Southern, and Tennessee Watercolor Societies.
