1820 Canadian Half Cent Bust and Harp - Rare in Fine Condition, See Photos. This 1820 "Bust and Harp" Token is a fascinating piece of Canadian numismatic history, originally issued as emergency merchant currency in Lower Canada (modern-day Quebec). Despite the date on the coin, most were actually struck between 1825 and 1835; the "1820" date was used to circumvent new laws that prohibited the importation of private tokens after 1825. The obverse features a laureated bust of George IV in a cuirass, while the reverse depicts a winged female figure merged with a harp, a design intended to appeal to the large Irish immigrant population in Canada at the time.
