Gary Sheffield was a feared right-handed slugger who played for eight different teams over a 22-season Major League Baseball career that spanned from 1988 to 2009. Known for his intimidating presence at the plate and his violent, wagging batting stance, Sheffield was a nine-time All-Star and a five-time Silver Slugger Award winner. He was a key member of the 1997 World Series champion Florida Marlins. In 1992, he won the National League batting title with the San Diego Padres, hitting .330. Sheffield finished his career with impressive offensive numbers, including 509 home runs, 1,676 runs batted in, and a .292 batting average. He is one of only a handful of players in MLB history to hit 100 or more home runs for three different teams. After his playing days, he became a sports agent.
