Justus Sheffield, born on May 13, 1996, is an American professional baseball pitcher. He is currently playing for the Gastonia Ghost Peppers in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Sheffield has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees (2018) and the Seattle Mariners (2019-2022).   

Sheffield was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the first round (31st overall) of the 2014 MLB draft out of Tullahoma High School in Tennessee. He was traded to the Yankees in 2016 and made his MLB debut with them on September 19, 2018. Following the 2018 season, he was traded to the Seattle Mariners.   

Over his MLB career (through the 2022 season), Sheffield has a win-loss record of 12-12 with a 5.47 earned run average (ERA) and 155 strikeouts in 48 games (33 starts). He throws left-handed and stands at 6 feet tall.   

Known for his athleticism and a four-pitch mix, Sheffield's fastball typically sits in the low 90s mph, reaching up to 94 mph with run and sink. His changeup and curveball have shown potential as above-average offerings. Scouting reports have noted that when he's at his best, his fastball can reach the mid-90s, even touching 97 mph. He also features a slider in the mid-80s and an average changeup with late fade.
