Theo Ratliff established himself as one of the premier defensive anchors and premier shot-blockers of his era during a productive 16-year NBA career. Drafted 18th overall by the Detroit Pistons in 1995 out of the University of Wyoming—where he finished his college career as one of the most prolific shot-blockers in NCAA history—the 6-foot-10 center quickly earned a reputation for elite rim protection and defensive intelligence. Over his career, which spanned stints with franchises like the Philadelphia 76ers, Atlanta Hawks, and Portland Trail Blazers, Ratliff led the NBA in blocks per game three times (2001, 2003, and 2004) and earned two NBA All-Defensive Second Team honors. His standout individual campaign came during the 2000–01 season with the 76ers, where he averaged a spectacular 3.74 blocks per game and was named an NBA All-Star. Though injuries frequently disrupted his prime years, Ratliff remained a highly respected professional and a master of weak-side rotations, ultimately retiring in 2011 ranked among the top 25 all-time in career blocked shots with 1,968 rejections.
